Two minor girls, both cousins and out to attend nature’s call, were allegedly gangraped at gun point by five persons in Jareef Nagar area of Badaun, almost a year after two minor girls were found hanging from tree allegedly after being gangraped in the district leading to a nationwide furore and condemnation.
The police arrested five youths, including two brothers, Wednesday after locals allegedly caught them in the act Tuesday night, assaulted them and held them captive. The accused were subsequently booked under charges of gangrape and POCSO Act.
The police have recorded the statement of the victims in which they reportedly have accused three of the youths of raping them. The girls will be produced before the magistrate Thursday for getting their statement recorded, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Badaun, Saumitra Yadav. The medical examination of the victims has been conducted and its report is awaited, he added.
The arrested accused include Naresh, his younger brother Rakesh and their servants — Chhotey Lal, Mahaveer and Manoj— all aged between 20 to 30 years, belonging to a neighbouring village. They will be produced before the court Thursday, said SHO, Jareef Nagar police station, Ganga Singh.
As per the SSP, the accused held the minors captive at gun point when they had ventured out of home Tuesday night to relieve themselves.
The accused were later nabbed by the villagers when the victims raised an alarm. The villagers assualted them and held them captive before handing them over to police, he said.
“A case has been lodged based on the complaint of father of one of the girls. The other girl is his niece,” the SSP said.
Last year, two cousins, aged 14 and 15, went missing from their house on the night of May 27 and their bodies were found hanging from a tree in the village in Ushait area the next day. They were allegedly raped before being hanged.
However, later, CBI in its probe said that the girls were neither murdered nor raped and had committed suicide. The case is sub-judice.
