Maharashtra boys defeated Andhra Pradesh 61-58 in the final to bag the top honours in the 38th Sub-Junior National Basketball Championships which came to a close in Lucknow on Friday. The half-time score was 31-32 in the keenly-contested encounter. On behalf of Maharashtra,Shaikh Zaid (13 points) and A Aditya (11 points) were the top scorers. For Andhra Pradesh,M Siva Durga (16 points) and B Neeraj Kumar (11 points) showed good aggression in their game.
Chhattisgarh was once again able to retain the winners trophy in the girls section when it defeated last years runners-up Karnataka 64-21. Showing good defence skills,it outclassed the opponents 36-07 in the first-half. On behalf of Chhattisgarh,Riya Verma (21 points) and P Divya (12 points) were the main point-getters while Sandya C (6 points) was the top scorer for Karnataka.
In the matches played for the 3rd and 4th position,Punjab defeated Chhattisgarh 70-47 while Maharashtra defeated Kerala 48-37 in the boys and girls sections,respectively.
The matches to decide the 5th and 6th positioners were played late on Thursday evening in which hosts UP beat Rajasthan 51-40 while Assam defeated Tamil Nadu 59-49 in the boys and girls sections,respectively.
V Ramachandran,Director General,RDSO was the chief guest during the finals.
