Attendant held for ‘molesting’ woman on train

A woman travelling in Bhagalpur-bound Vikramshila Express was allegedly molested by an attendant of an AC II coach between Allahabad and Mughalsarai stations early on Thursday morning.

A woman travelling in Bhagalpur-bound Vikramshila Express was allegedly molested by an attendant of an AC II coach between Allahabad and Mughalsarai stations early on Thursday morning. The accused was arrested after the woman lodged a complaint with Government Railway Police at Mughalsarai.

Mughalsarai GRP SHO Ratan Singh Yadav said the 26-year-old,who is employed in Canada,said she boarded the train at New Delhi railway station for her native place in Patna last evening. She alleged that after the train left Allahabad station around 4 am,she was woken up by the attendant molesting her. She caught him and raised an alarm,but he managed to free himself and ran to another compartment.

The co-passengers woke up on hearing her screams and searched for the attendant but could not find him. The woman and the passengers informed the Travelling Ticket Examiner and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel who were on escort duty in the train. The RPF men,who reportedly searched for the attendant,said that the accused could not be traced in the other coaches,Yadav added.

He also said the woman walked to the GRP police station immediately after the train arrived here around 6.30 am and lodged the complaint. The GRP team had to search all the compartments to trace the attendant,who was later found hiding in the pantry car.

The accused was identified as Ram Darash,a native of Bhagalpur district. He was arrested on charges of molestation (IPC Section 354),said the SHO.

Minor ‘gangraped’

A 12-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by three persons in Urwan village of Chandauli,triggering protests by locals who blocked traffic and torched the nearby Sakaldiha Tehsil office on Thursday. The incident took place on Wednesday,and an FIR has been registered against the trio on the complaint of the girl,Superintendent of Police Sharad Sachan said. Agitated over the incident,locals set afire the Sakaldiha Tehsil office and blocked traffic movement on Sakaldiha-Chandauli road.
