Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav directed the UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) to supply uninterrupted power from 6 to 10pm across the state from March 22 to April 20,in view of the ongoing board examination.

As the UPPCL is already facing fund crunch, the state government will provide special financial assistance of Rs 150 crore to ensure proper implementation of its order.

Senior officials said that UPPCL would face a tough time ensuring implementation of this order as 6pm to 10pm is the peak time and to ensure that there is no electricity cut in the state during this time would be difficult because UP is already facing a huge gap between power generation and demand.

Akhilesh, who held review meetings with the officials of various departments such as Forest,PWD and Tourism, put road projects on top of his government’s priority list. He asked officials concerned to undertake feasibility studies on road projects that would shorten the distance between Lucknow and Delhi; Lucknow and Nepal border. He asked the Public Works Department to look into the feasibility of two different routes connecting Lucknow to the Nepal border — one through Bahraich and another through Gorakhpur and Maharajganj.

Akhilesh also reviewed the proposed road project for four-laning of road connecting Lucknow to Rae Bareli, which is the constituency of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. He asked the officers to immediately get in touch with the concerned ministry in the Centre to ensure that the work on the project is started soon. He also asked the department to extend this project of four-laning to Allahabad as well.

Akhilesh gave one year’s deadline to the authorities to complete the pending projects related to roads and bridges, whose foundation stone were laid during the previous Samajwadi Party regime before 2007. Akhilesh also instructed the forest department officials to look into the possibility of developing a cycle track in the green belt in Gomti Nagar extension area. He also ordered revival of Lion Safari Project in Etawah.
