Mafia-turned-politician D P Yadav, who was denied entry to the Samjwadi Party by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, seemed to have taken a sweet revenge against the party.

Mafia-turned-politician D P Yadav, who was denied entry to the Samjwadi Party by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, seemed to have taken a sweet revenge against the party. He foiled the attempts made by local SP MP and Akhilesh’s cousin Dharmendra Yadav to unseat his relative from the post of zila panchayat chairman of Budaun.

Ironically,Dharmendra failed to keep his flock together against D P Yadav.

Chetna Singh, the projected candidate of the SP,blamed Banwari Singh Yadav, who is party’s MLC and district unit president, for backstabbing. She accused Banwari of conspiring with D P Yadav to defeat her and malign the image of Dharmendra.

“Before the voting,I had placed these issues before Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. Banwari Singh Yadav and his son Ashish Yadav, who is also an MLA,were directed by the CM to support us. But both of them sold their conscience before the muscle- and money-power of D P Yadav and sabotaged our planning,” she said.

Cabinet Minister Azam Khan, who was in Budaun on Monday to distribute cheques for the state government scheme Hamari Beti Uska Kal,too, was apprised about the situation.

“Azam Khan too reprimanded Banwari Yadav. It is a planning by Banwari to defame Dharmendra Yadav. In future, this incident will be highlighted as Dharmendra’s failure,” Chetna claimed.

Banwari, however, denied the charges and blamed Chetna for ill-treating the members of the zila panchayat. “She could not hold the members and they went away on their own. There was mismanagement in her camp. I am ready for any probe and will abide by (party chief) Mulayam Singh’s direction,” Banwari said.

The no-confidence motion against the incumbent Budaun zila panchayat chairman Poonam Yadav,a relative of D P Yadav, was moved by the SP. On February 4,as many as 31 members of the total 41 signed the no-confidence motion against Poonam.

The SP projected Chetna Singh as its candidate for the post, which comes with a red-beacon car and control over huge development fund.

On February 26,voting was to be held on the no-confidence motion but none of the members reported.

Chetna Singh claimed that D P Yadav had allegedly kidnapped the members. Yadav, however, denied the allegations. Voting was deferred to March 22 when 23 members turned up. D P Yadav too arrived at the scene looking satisfied with his arrangements. Poonam raised objections over the identity of six woman voters who were later found to be bogus and denied voting rights. Thus, only 17 genuine members remained which could not complete the desired quorum of 22 members. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Ashok Kumar Singh wrote to the district administration for taking action against the bogus woman voters. The no-confidence motion, therefore, could not be passed against Poonam.

“I am on my way to Saifai and will meet Mulayam Singh Yadav on Wednesday to apprise him about the development. Banwari Singh Yadav is a traitor and is hand-in-glove with D P Yadav,” Chetna said.

On the other hand,a satisfied D P Yadav claimed that the SP had lost all ground among the public and thus, could not convince the voters. “I have nothing against Banwari Singh Yadav and Chetna Singh. It is the misdeeds of SP which is going against them,” D P Yadav said.
