Led by their national general secretary,Anupriya Patel, workers of Apna Dal held a protest in front of Secretariat on Thursday against the change of name of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University to King George Medical University and change of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar to Amethi. Claiming it as insult to an Indian ruler,Apna Dal workers also demanded July 26 to be declared as “reservation day”. They blocked the road in front of Secretariat with flags of Apna Dal in hand.

While Anupriya Patel would be meeting Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav over the issue on Friday, she gave her memorandum to Rakesh Garg, principal secretary to Chief Minister on Thursday. “I believe that King George is the symbol of Indian slavery. After so many years of independence,it is time that we make our own identity and associate our institutions with names of our own kings. Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj is not just any king in Indian history but the father of reservation,” Anupriya said.
