Radhey Lal Rawat, the sitting MLA of Bahujan Samaj Party from Hassanganj area in Unnao, was admitted to Trauma Center of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University in Lucknow on Wednesday after he allegedly consumed a poisonous substance.

The incident took place in Unnao, from where he was brought to Lucknow in the afternoon.

While the initial reports from Unnao said he had attempted suicide as another person had also filed his nomination papers as the BSP candidate from the same seat on Wednesday, but both the police in Unnao as well as the doctors at the medical college had denied reports of attempted suicide.

Doctors had informed that during treatment,Rawat had informed them that he had taken few spoons of some poisonous substance mistaking it for cough syrup.

Radhey Lal Rawat is the sitting BSP MLA from Hassangaj and this time,he was given BSP ticket from Mohan reserved Assembly constituency in Unnao district. Unnao would go for polls in the fourth phase of election and Rawat had filed his nomination papers as BSP candidate last week.

However,on Wednesday, which was the last day of filing nomination papers for the fourth phase, another BSP leader,JP Rawat had also filed his nomination papers as the BSP candidate. “We do not know about any candidate attempting suicide but it is true that two candidates have filed their nomination papers from Mohan seat as BSP candidates. The actual candidate would be decided in the scrutiny on Thursday,” said Brijesh Tyagi, the returning officer at Mohan.

Meanwhile, doctors informed that Rawat’s condition is stable and he was being treated for just high sugar level and blood pressure late in the evening. “He came to us during the day complaining of nausea.
