A Fireman sustained head injuries when some persons began pelting stones at a fire brigade team,which was conducting a joint mock drill with Army personnel in Ordinance Depot (Fort,Allahabad) Saturday.

Two other personnel also sustained minor injuries. Police said the situation was brought under control soon. An FIR has been lodged by the Army against those allegedly involved in the incident.

Police said a mock drill of Army and Fire personnel was being conducted at the depot,located in the historical Akbar’s Fort,around noon.

At the same spot,a group was allegedly protesting in connection with certain vacancies advertised by the Army,a few months ago.

“Some unwanted elements,on seeing the firemen,began pelting stones. One of the firemen was hit on his head,while two sustained minor injuries. Chowki incharge and some additional police force rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control,” said Dev Ranjan Verma,Circle Officer (Daraganj).

Verma added that the Army had advertised more than 150 vacancies for various minor jobs. “Protesters had raised some issues,and said would hand over a memorandum to the District Magistrate,said Verma.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by Army officials,an FIR pertaining to rioting and voluntarily causing injuries has been registered at Daraganj police station.

“Some persons have also been named,” said Verma. An Army spokesperson,however,refused to comment on the matter.
