A hotel manager and two of his associates allegedly tried to rape a woman, who had come to stay in their hotel along with her husband,in Kotwali area of the city. The incident was reported around Sunday midnight. The manager has been arrested.

The woman managed to escape by jumping from the second floor balcony of the hotel. Her husband too jumped after her. They suffered serious injuries as they fell on the terrace of the first floor. They were taken to a hospital, where their condition was reported to be out of danger. An angry crowd later entered the hotel and damaged its property.

According to the police, the incident occurred at Coco Hotel in Johnsonganj locality near Niranjan talkies. A passerby raised an alarm when he saw a woman jumping from the balcony of the hotel, followed by a man. As a crowd gathered, the police were informed.

In her complaint lodged with the Kotwali police, the woman (23),a resident of Mirzapur, alleged that the manager,Rudra Prasad Pandey, and two of his associates knocked on the door of their room around midnight. As she opened the door, she was dragged by them into another room. Her husband too was beaten up. The assailants then tried to rape her.

Investigations indicated that the husband and wife had come from Mirzapur on Sunday afternoon to catch the Mahanagri Express from Allahabad. However, they could not arrive in time and missed the train. They then checked into Coco Hotel at 5 pm.

Circle Officer (Kotwali) Atul Srivastava said: “The manager has admitted that he had consumed alcohol at 8 pm along with his associates. He then barged into the room of the woman around midnight.” The accused, however, tried to defend himself by saying that the couple had not furnished any identity proof and he wanted to inquire about the same.
