According to the police, the Class 10 student, who secured 93.6 per cent marks, took the extreme step at his apartment around midnight on May 30.
Nearly a week after his 16-year-old son allegedly died by suicide, a man approached Aligarh’s Mahua Kheda police Monday and lodged a complaint against the parents of a girl, who was the teenager’s classmate and friend, over abetment to suicide, police said.
According to the police, the Class 10 student, who secured 93.6 per cent marks, took the extreme step at his apartment around midnight on May 30. He was alone at the time as his younger brother was on a school trip and his parents were in Mussoorie. Initial police inquiry revealed that he had left a suicide note seeking an apology from his parents and had made his last call to them from his mobile at around 11 pm.
Vijay Singh, in-charge of Mahua Kheda police station, said, “The father has lodged an FIR against the girl’s parents and an unidentified caller from Saudi Arabia who called the deceased boy on his mobile phone and was forcing him to maintain distance from the girl.”
“We tried to contact the girl’s family but they are out of Aligarh at present. We were also informed that she has been admitted to a Delhi hospital since May 31. We have sent a team to the hospital to record her statement,” he added. The police also seized the mobile phone and laptop used by the deceased and sent it for forensic examination.
The father, a chartered accountant, told reporters on May 31 that his son died by suicide as he was unhappy with his academic performance in high school. However, he later came to know that his son was friends with a girl in his class and they used to meet outside their school, the police said.
“The father, in the FIR, claimed that the girl’s family was putting pressure on his son to maintain distance from her as they both belonged to different religions. The girl’s mother also had a telephonic conversation with the teenager on May 29, a day before his death,” the officer said.
“Investigation is on. We hope to get the girl’s statement before proceeding further,” he added.
