A harassment incident was prevented from snowballing into a communal issue with timely police intervention Friday night. The accused has been arrested.
This is the second incident in as many days in the district,when a relatively minor incident threatened to develop into a confrontation between two communities,but was immediately brought under control.
It may be recalled that riots in Muzaffarnagar and surrounding areas,which began a week ago leading to nearly 50 people losing their lives,had started from a harassment incident towards the end of last month.
Police said a minor girl was allegedly harassed by a man,belonging to another community,near Chandralok cinema under Kotwali police station area around 4 pm Friday. The girl went home and narrated the incident to her parents.

Since the accused was from the same locality,South Malaka,her parents decided to confront him. This led to people from both the communities gathering at the spot between 9 and 10 pm.
police got a call saying huge crowds,from both communities have gathered in the locality. Immediately force from the local,as well as neighbouring police stations,were rushed to the spot, said Circle Officer (Kotwali),Samar Bahadur.
A case was subsequently registered and the accused,Shadab,was arrested.
Once we realised there was no law and order situation,forces were withdrawn, said Bahadur. He added the identity and antecedents of the caller is being ascertained.
Meanwhile,in a similar incident,three persons Israr,Rassu and Imran were arrested Friday for allegedly eve-teasing a girl and beating up her uncle,when he objected,in Ara Khurd village under Utraon police station area on the outskirts of the district.
The incident occurred Thursday evening. Police was rushed to the spot,as there was a build up along communal lines. Force was withdrawn after police registered a case and promised action.
Tension grips Aligarh locality after harassment incident
Aligarh: Tension gripped Atrauli after a girl was allegedly harassment by three youths of a community. The girl who was on her way to college was allegedly accosted and harassed by three motorcycle-borne youths Friday,police said. The girl raised an alarm and bystanders nabbed one of the youths,while the other two escaped,they said. There was tension in the area following the incident as leaders of different saffron organisations reached the spot. Senior district officials rushed to the spot and another culprit was nabbed. Police said a strict vigil is being maintained at Atrauli and neighbouring villages. pti
