Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has asked “to end the discrimination” UP faces in allotment of power from central pool. According to the government spokesperson, the letter states that allotment of power from central pool is done on the basis of ‘Gadgil formula’ which is on the basis of population. However, several states like Delhi and Maharashtra, which have less population than UP, are allotted more power.
Thus the norms for distribution of power from central pool should be revised keeping in mind rise in demand, weather and irrigation requirement, the letter states. Akhilesh has also raised the issue of coal blocks in Odisha for UP State Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited. He has sought environmental clearance for Ghatampur Thermal Power Project and has raised concern over poor quality of coal supplied by Coal India for Anpara and Pariksha power plants, which account for 56 per cent of power production of the state. The CM has also sought clearance from National Board of Wild Life for the transmission lines between Anpara and Unnao.
