The newly-appointed state president of the Samajwadi Party,Akhilesh Yadav, will preside over a meeting of party functionaries from 71 districts, besides the city units on Saturday.
He will review preparations for the impending by-elections for the 13 Assembly and one Lok Sabha seat due in the state. Yadav had vacated the Ferozabad Lok Sabha seat, since he was also elected as MP from Kannauj.
Soon after the Lok Sabha elections, all the 90 districts and city units of the SP were dissolved. The heads of all 14 front organisations were also removed.
So far,as many as 50 units have been reconstituted. The rest are likely to be constituted this month. Sources said the party wants to complete the task of reorganising the organisational structure at the district level as early as possible since the state executive will be constituted only after that.
You will see a new face of the Samajwadi Party during the by-elections. We are not concerned about what other parties are doing to rope in youths,we have been doing the same for long, said Yadav.
Of the 13 Assembly seats slated for by-polls,SP candidates had won in six segments in the Lok Sabha polls. While BJP led in three Assembly segments,Congress led in two and Rashtriya Lok Dal and Bahujan Samaj Party in one segment each.
Among these 13 seats, while eight sitting MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha, the rest have resigned from the membership of the Assembly since they have defected from their parent party.
