Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday blamed demonetisation and Goods and Services Tax (GST) for “economic slowdown and unemployment.”
“The note ban has ruined the economy and led to unemployment. The youth are unemployed because of the decision. Most farmers are committing suicide due to note ban and imposition of GST. The informal sector of the country has also been affected by the decisions of the Centre,” Akhilesh said during the the third birthday celebrations of Khajanchi, who was born when his mother Sarvesha was standing in a bank queue to exchange old notes, at the party headquarters here. A cake was cut by the child in presence of Akhilesh. Khajanchi has been the face of the SP’s anti-demonetisation campaign.
Congress’s student wing NSUI too staged a protest near the party office in Lucknow.
BSP chief Mayawati tweeted “The Central government without any preparation announced demonetisation… The note ban is the main cause for increasing unemployment and worsening of the economy…”
