Akhilesh kicks off 7th phase of rath yatra with promises for weavers

Criticising the BSP government for ignoring farmers, labourers and minorities,Samajwadi Party state president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday started the seventh phase of his Kranti Rath Yatra from Ayodhya.

Criticising the BSP government for ignoring farmers, labourers and minorities,Samajwadi Party state president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday started the seventh phase of his Kranti Rath Yatra from Ayodhya.

Addressing a public rally at Harraiya in Basti district Yadav said fertilisers and irrigation water are not available for the farmers in the current BSP regime and they are not able to fetch even the investment cost of paddy and sugarcane crops.

Addressing a public rally at Khalilabad town in Sant Kabir Nagar district,Yadav promised that the Samajwadi Party will take steps for the welfare of weavers. “How their business should function and where their products should be sold, all these details will be mentioned in the party manifesto,” he added.

He alleged that the BSP and the Congress were not going to implement Sachar Committee and Ranganath Mishra Commission reports as one was writing letters and the other was only making promises, but not bringing the necessary legislation. “Only the Samajwadi Party will implement these and provide reservation for Muslims,” he claimed.

He said that earler the SP-led government had set up sugar mills for the benefit of farmers, while the BSP government had spent Rs 40,000 crore on “stone parks”. “No other politician in the country ever erected their own statues,” Yadav told the gathering.

The seventh phase of the yatra will cover Faizabad,Basti,Sant Kabir Nagar,Kushinagar,Deoria,Maharajganj and Gorakhpur districts.Meanwhile,Yadav also said that the SP would not bail out the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre in case it falls under its own weight. The SP leader said a decision in this regard has been taken at the recent meeting of the parliamentary board of the party.

Asked why SP had extended support to the UPA government earlier,Yadav, son of SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, said it was to keep the BJP out of power.

Reacting to Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s statement that the state of affairs in UP fills him with anger,he said the Mayawati government would not be in existence today even if one central government department was really angry.

He claimed SP was far ahead of the Congress in its yatra, with the party already covering 100 Assembly constituencies in the state. Besides the rath yatra, cycle yatras were also going on,he added.
