Akhilesh: False cases against Brahmins will be withdrawn

Amid blowing of conch shells and chanting of Sanskrit mantras, the Samajwadi Party on Sunday appealed to Brahmins to make party president Mulayam Singh Yadav prime minister in 2014.

The occasion was a Brahmin Sammelan, held to coincide with Parashuram Jayanti. It was attended by Hindu religious leaders from Ayodhya and Mathura. SP chief Mulayam Singh was not there, but Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced that all “false cases” lodged against Brahmins under the SC Atrocities Act by the former BSP regime will be withdrawn.

The event coincided with the BSP’s Brahmin Bhaichara Sammelan, led by party’s national general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra at Maharajganj.

Targeting the BJP,Akhilesh said that a certain party claimed that Brahmins were only its supporters and the SP cannot win in Ayodhya. But in the last Assembly elections,Brahmins showed their support to the SP and voted for its candidate in Ayodhya,he said.

Akhilesh said the Samajwadi Party had always supported the Brahmin community and it was the first government in the country to undo the promotion in reservation policy, which was an unjust policy,as soon as the Supreme Court gave its judgment against the previous government’s policy of reservation in promotions.

He also criticised the previous BSP regime for not doing enough to meet the increasing power requirement of the state. “Now we are planning to establish power plants for adequate power,” he said.

Lauding the Brahmin community for preserving the Sanskrit language and,in turn,“our culture”, Akhilesh said the issues of Sanskrit teachers regarding recruitment and salary will be resolved within a month. He also promised that the beautification of Parashuram temple at Jalalabad will be undertaken and it will be developed into a tourist spot.
