After leaders discuss ‘bias against Brahmins’ at meet, UP BJP warns MLAs against caste-based activities
The warning against such gatherings came from the BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary after several of the party’s Brahmin MLAs and MLCs met at the residence of Kushinagar MLA P N Pathak on Tuesday
He said all the public representatives who attended the Tuesday meeting have been told that such activities send the wrong message in society. “If any public representative of the party (BJP) repeats such an act in future, that will be considered indiscipline as per the party’s constitution,” he said.
TWO DAYS after several BJP MLAs and MLCs gathered for a dinner in Lucknow and discussed alleged bias against the Brahmin community, the party leadership on Thursday said the meeting was “against the party’s constitution and values” and cautioned that a repeat of such events in future will be considered “indiscipline”.
The meeting had created ripples in the political circles of Uttar Pradesh, with the Opposition claiming that “all was not well” within the ruling party. Earlier, a similar informal gathering of Kshatriya MLAs of the BJP had taken place in Lucknow during the Monsoon Session of the Assembly.

While Pathak called it merely a community dinner where MLAs largely discussed the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state and development works in their areas, sources said among the main agendas of the meeting was a discussion on alleged bias against the Brahmin community and how they were being sidelined.
MLA Anil Tripathi, who claimed to be a part of the dinner meeting, told mediapersons, “…discussions were held on both social and political issues. One of our biggest concerns was that our community contributed significantly to the formation of Bharat, but today, people of Brahmin samaj are being humiliated in society.” He, however, clarified that it was a social and general concern and had nothing to do with the working of the government.
In a statement on Thursday, the state BJP president said any such act should not be considered in accordance with the party’s constitution and values.
“BJP is a party based on principles and values. BJP and its workers do not believe in politics for family or any specific section,” Chaudhary said.

“We have spoken to our public representatives in this regard and they have been told clearly that any such activity is not in accordance with the constitutional practices of the BJP. Public representatives have been asked to be cautious of such activities in future,” Chaudhary said in the statement.
