‘Aadhaar can’t be accepted as proof of date of birth’: UP issues directions to all departments

(Source: File) Aadhaar DOB proof: The Uttar Pradesh Planning Department on November 24 directed heads of all the departments against the use of Aadhaar cards as birth proof. It has asked the departments to refer to the letter by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) dated October 31, 2025, which had clarified that “Aadhaar card is not the proof of birth”.
Sources said the development comes amid reports of some departments still considering “Aadhaar cards” as the proof of birth.
The Planning Department is the nodal department for implementing directions related to Aadhaar.
“Deputy Director, UIDAI, Lucknow regional office, in the letter dated October 31, 2025, had informed that Aadhaar Card is not the proof of Birth. Irrespective of this, some of the departments are still using Aadhaar as proof of birth. Thus, you are requested to direct all concerned that they should not accept Aadhaar Card as the proof of Birth,” read the order issued by Amit Singh Singhal, special Secretary Planning, to all the additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries and secretaries across the state.
