Seven policemen of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Aligarh district police,including two sub-inspectors,were suspended and a case of murder was registered against them today after a man died in their custody at Kwarsi police station.
Aligarh range DIG Prakash D said that a criminal,Ramu,was wanted in a case of forgery and the Gangster Act for last several months and he carried a reward of Rs 5,000 on his head.
The SOG team was tipped-off about Ramus presence in Gabhana area on Sunday. They raided the place and picked up Ramu and his brother Shyamu,as both were twins and had identical physical appearance,the DIG said.
He also said that Ramu and his brother were handed over to the Kwarsi police. While in police custody,Shyamu (30) suddenly fell unconscious. He was rushed to the JN Medical College in Aligarh after his condition deteriorated,but he was declared brought dead.
The DIG said that a panel of three doctors conducted the post mortem on Monday. The examination did not find any external injury on the body or an exact cause of death.
