Four MBBS interns returning to their university campus after a party were killed late Wednesday night after their Swift Dzire crashed into a parked truck on the Delhi-Lucknow National Highway in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, police said.

All four were the only sons in their families.

The accident took place around 10.30 pm near Atrasi village, about 7 km from Shri Venkateshwara University in Gajraula, where the four were interning after completing their MBBS in the 2020 batch.

The mattress-loaded DCM (truck) was stationed on the service road when the car rammed into it from behind. “The collision was so severe that the front portion of the car was embedded in the DCM. With great difficulty, the car was pulled apart using a tractor, and then cut open to retrieve the bodies,” said police.

The victims have been identified as Dr Arnab Chakraborty (25) of Belgharia North in West Bengal; Dr Ayush Sharma of Delhi; Dr Shrestha Pancholi of Delhi; and Dr Saptarishi (24) of Ramnagar, Agartala (Tripura). All four died on the spot. Police said the bodies were sent for post-mortem, after their families arrived.

Locals have told police they rushed out after hearing a loud noise. By the time they reached, the car’s roof had been ripped open and the front seats were smashed. Blood was splattered across the interior, and both front airbags had deployed.

The four were identified through their Aadhaar cards, after which the university management and families were informed.
