As many as 3,000 voter cards, belonging to Sitapur and Unnao district, were recovered from Lucknows Mahanagar area on Monday. The cards were spotted lying near a road in Mahanagar by one Vikas Singh who informed the police.
Tehsildar Sadar Sudhir Rongta, who seized the cards, said they were issued in 1995 by Chief Electoral Officer. He said the cards could have been misprinted at that time and were left in a house where a contractor who manufactured the cards used to live.
Later, the house was rented to Instrumentation Limited,a Government of India undertaking, but, the company also vacated the premises last week. The new owner of the house threw out the cards while cleaning,he said.
