10-year-old girl found dead at Mathura shelter home; role of 2 minors under lens
The victim died at a state-run shelter home in Mathura after two 15-year-old girls allegedly held her head underwater in a bathroom.

Two teenage girls staying at a state-run shelter home in Mathura allegedly killed their minor roommate by holding her head underwater in a bucket in the bathroom on Friday, officials said.
Police said CCTV footage and other evidence pointed to the involvement of the teenagers, who also allegedly admitted to the crime. Police said CCTV footage showed three girls entering the bathroom around 11 am on Friday. Around 40 minutes later, two of them came out and returned to their beds, while the victim was not seen leaving the bathroom.
According to police, the girls claimed they killed the victim because they wanted to leave the shelter home. They allegedly told investigators that fellow residents had told them the home would be closed after such an incident, allowing them to go wherever they wanted.
Both girls are POCSO survivors and had been staying at the shelter home for the past four months.
Based on a complaint filed by the shelter home’s superintendent, the police registered a case against five named girls and other unidentified residents.
“So far, the investigation has not found the involvement of any other inmate apart from the two girls. The investigation is continuing, and evidence is being collected,” said Varun Mishra, Circle Officer, Mathura.
Currently, 140 girls are staying at the shelter home.
The victim had been shifted to the Mathura shelter home from one in Rampur in June this year. The victim had been sent there after her mother developed a mental health condition and there was no one at home to look after her.
