The Trinamool Congress is fighting the combined power of the CPM,Congress and the BJP in the Howrah Lok Sabha bypoll, said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her first address during the campaign for party candidate Prasun Banerjee this evening.

“They (the three parties) have come together and are spreading rumours against the Trinamool Congress with a section of the media.

“The BJP claims it has no candidate in the fray but it has nominated two Independents, including one Hindi-speaking,in order to cut into TMC votes,” she said at a rally at Bally.

She said “theirs was an unethical alliance” but the TMC is depending on the people’s mandate.

“They have only one motive,to remove TMC from power,” she added.

Interestingly, senior CPM leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had on Sunday told the voters of Howrah not to vote for the Trinamool Congress as the party “is entering into an alliance with the BJP again”.

The Chief Minister also said the Central government was putting hurdles in the way of development work of the state government. “Central agencies are interfering in every possible way because they are hand-in-glove with the CPM and trying to intimidate people with CBI and Income Tax departments. I had discussed this with PM Manmohan Singh, saying my MPs are being unnecessarily harassed. He seemed to have been ignorant about it,” the CM said.

She also added that other parties were in a hurry to conduct this election soon after the death of TMC leader Ambica Banerjee. “It could easily have waited for six months after which an election would have taken place anyway. They think they would give a jolt to the TMC before the panchayat elections,” she said.

Mamata said the people at Bally were facing several civic problems because of the CPM and assured them of an overhaul once they win there.

On criticism of doling out money to pay Tara Newz and Tara Muzik channels’ employees and to family members victims of toxic alcohol, she said,“Who is paid out of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund is the CM’s discretion,” she said.
