To win country, need to win its dil: Rajnath tells BJP as campaign begins

Nitin Gadkari,on Tuesday said the party had to win Delhi if it wanted to win India.

Opening the party’s poll campaign in the capital,Nitin Gadkari, former BJP president and Delhi in-charge,on Tuesday said the party had to win Delhi if it wanted to win India.

“Delhi is a semi-final and if we can’t win the semi-final,how do we expect to win the final? Whosoever wins the semi-final will win the final,” Gadkari told a gathering of party workers at the Talkatora Stadium here.

Urging senior leaders to refrain from infighting,Gadkari said tickets will be given only to deserving candidates. “There are 70 seats and 1,200-1,500 contenders. Put across your views to me till the candidates are decided but after that, everyone has to work for the party’s victory. I do not want any infighting. And stop going to leaders’ houses with presents to get tickets. This will not serve any purpose. Seats will be decided in a democratic way,” he said.

Speaking to the gathering,BJP national president Rajnath Singh said,“We have been in exile (in Delhi) for the past 14 years. That’s how long an exile lasts. Desh ke dil par vijay haasil karoge to desh par vijay haasil kar paogey (If you win the heart of the country, you can win the country).”

Criticising the Congress and praising Narendra Modi,Singh said the Congress had ruined the city in the last 15 years. In comparison,Modi has achieved so much for his state in just 10 years,he said.

M Venkaiah Naidu too heaped praise on Modi. “We have a strong PM candidate and the Congress has no strong contender to fight Modi,” he said.

The Delhi BJP has taken it up as a challenge to gather more people for Modi’s Delhi rally on September 29 than the crowd at the Gujarat Chief Minister’s rally in Rewari, the first one after he was declared the party’s prime ministerial candidate.

Party workers have been asked to organise ‘prabhat pheris’ (taking rounds in the morning) in every neighbourhood. “Every colony will hold a prabhat pheri till September 29 to gather people for the rally. These rounds can be arranged by any worker from September 19 till September 28,” Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel said.

Pamphlets have been distributed to workers, giving them directions on how to drum up support for the rally. “At 6.30 am,everyone will gather and,at 6.45 am,the rounds will start, which will end at 7.45 am with a cup of tea. The same day,the time and venue of the next round will be decided. The rounds will be done with harmoniums, dhols and songs. Workers can approach artists from katputli colonies. The rounds can be headed by district presidents, booth in-charges or anyone else holding party posts,” the pamphlet read.

The state BJP has asked its workers that at least 50-100 people should take part in the rounds. “Workers should invite people from RWAs,social organisations,Ramlila committees and youth organsiations,” the pamphlet stated.
