A 28-year-old woman was found dead at a guest house in Noida’s Sector 27 on Wednesday morning.
Police identified the deceased as Lubna Mehmood (28),who worked as a designer at a private firm in Noida.
Lubna had checked into the guest house with Shahbaz Deshmukh,a resident of Mumbai. Shahbaz was absconding, police said.
Police said Lubna and Shahbaz checked into the guest house at 6.35 pm on Tuesday. Employees of the guest house told police that the two claimed to be married. They booked room number 204 but CCTV footage shows the man leaving the guest house at 11 pm alone, said Yogesh Singh,SP (City).
Singh added that when guest house employees knocked on the rooms door in the morning, there was no response. They presumed the guests were asleep. However, when nobody opened the door even after repeated knocks, they used a duplicate key to open the room. Lubna was lying on the bed frothing at the mouth and with marks around her neck. She was rushed to the district hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival, Singh said.
A forensic team found blood marks in the room. We are searching for Shahbaz, a police officer said.
Police said they were waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death, though a case of murder had been registered. We have contacted the victim’s brother, who works in Gurgaon. We were told that Lubna and Shahbaz were planning to get married. Shahbaz lives in Panvel near Mumbai. We have sent teams to track him. He will be arrested soon, the officer said.
