The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday filed a charge sheet against Member of Parliament (MP) from Junagadh,Dinesh Solanki alias Dinu Bogha for conspiracy and murder of RTI activist Amit Jethva.
The BJP MP is currently in judicial in Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad.
He was arrested by CBI officials in New Delhi on November 6 and was brought here two days later.
The CBI officials remained tight lipped about Solanki’s exact role in the case. Sources,however said that Solanki has been charged under sections 302 and 120 (B),of IPC.
The charges against Solanki comes in sharp contradiction with the probe by the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) which gave clean chit to Solanki while chargesheeting six persons. The DCB officials had said that it couldn’t get evidence involving Solanki in the sensational murder.
Jethva was shot dead by two bike borne assailants right opposite Gujarat High Court on 28th July,2010. Jethva had filed a huge number of RTI applications seeking details on the illegal mining going on in Junagadh,which allegedly involved Solanki. The CBI also got hold of audio tapes that had taped conversations of Dinu Solanki,which strengthened the case against him.
After DCB filed the charge sheet,Jethva’s father Bhikhabhai had approached Gujarat High Court demanding CBI probe while claiming that Solanki was involved in his son’s murder.
Earlier CBI had filed chargesheet against six persons including Shiva Solanki,nephew of Dinu Solanki,Shailesh Pandya,Shiva Pachan and a police constable Bahadursinh Vadher among others.
CBI had claimed that Vadher was the main accused and Dinu Solanki was in touch with him. CBI had also claimed that since Jethva through his RTI applications was exposing Solanki’s alleged illegal mining activities and that was the motive of the murder.
“The CBI didn’t allow us to go through the chargesheet. We demanded from the court to provide us the copy. The court has kept the charge sheet for verification and scheduled the case for hearing on January 4. On this day the court we decide to give a copy of the chargesheet,” said senior advocate Mitesh Amin who represents Solanki in the case.
