Singer and rebel Trinamool Congress MP Kabir Suman, who embarrassed his party on numerous occasions,Wednesday said he will not contest the 2014 Lok Sabha elections even if he was paid Rs 10 crore.
I will not contest the elections even if I am paid Rs 10 crore or I am promised to be made the King of India, he said. Suman also accused party men of corruption, been vocal in his support for tribal people of Lalgarh, published an album Chatradharer Gaan in support of jailed PCPA leader Chatradhar Mahato and demanded a halt to the operation against Maoists by security forces in Junglemahal.
Party supremo Mamata Banerjee said he could be expelled in a minute for glorifying Maoists, but stopped short of taking disciplinary action following the intervention of noted writer Mahasweta Devi.
Suman has since skipped party programmes, even when Mamata Banerjee met party MPs to finalise a blueprint to accelerate development work before the Lok Sabha elections. He is a member of the Lok Sabha since May 2009. He was elected from the Jadavpur constituency defeating CPM heavyweight Sujan Chakraborty.
