The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday conducted raids at six locations in West Bengal, including an office and three flats of a builder known to be close to former state education minister Partha Chatterjee, in connection with its probe into the teacher recruitment scam. The ED had arrested Chatterjee in 2022.
On Friday, the ED conducted raids at the office and apartments of builder Rajiv Dey in the Bansdroni and Ballygunge areas of Kolkata. Dey owns Shriram Construction in Naktala and his house and office are a stone’s throw away from Chatterjee’s house. Sources said the investigation was to find out if money from the teacher recruitment scam was used to promote Dey’s construction business.
This is the second raid in the state by the central agency this week. On Tuesday, the ED had conducted raids at Salt Lake and other areas in connection with its probe into the ration scam.

According to local residents, Dey has been in the real estate business for about 10-12 years. ED sources said that several documents and bank details seized from his possession show that Chatterjee took his help to invest money gained from the teacher recruitment scam.
Last week, ED officials had questioned councillor Bappaditya Dasgupta, who is known to be close to Chatterjee, and he was allegedly asked about some promoters that the ED suspected the former minister was associated with.
Chatterjee was arrested on July 23, 2022, after ₹21 crore in cash and jewellery worth above ₹1 crore was recovered from the Kolkata residence of his close aide, Arpita Mukherjee.
