The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) chairperson Priyank Kanoongo on Friday alleged that he was manhandled by a Kolkata policeman inside Tiljala police station in the state capital.
Kanoongo is visiting Kolkata to inquire about a minor girl’s death in Kolkata’s Tiljala on March 27. “We were in Tiljala inquiring about the recent incident and local police were stationed there. We saw that they were shooting videos of our conversations with the family. When I objected that it wasn’t right to record our conversation with the victim’s family, he said he had orders. He pushed me and even snatched the camera that I was carrying. I was surrounded by a group of policemen and had to leave the place,” said Kanoongo.

“Later, I was beaten up by a West Bengal police officer,” alleged Kanoongo. He also submitted a report to the local Deputy Commissioner of Police.
Following the incident, Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendhu Adhikari said, “The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights is a statutory body established under the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005. NCPCR Chairperson is beaten up inside Tiljala PS. That’s the Law & Order situation of WB.”
The NCPCR chairperson will also visit Malda on Saturday and meet the family of a minor girl who was recently allegedly raped inside a school.

According to reports, a seven-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and killed by her neighbour in Tiljala area on March 27. Her body was allegedly found in a jute bag in her neighbour’s house.
