Vijayvargiya steps in to end Rahul-Rupa standoff

A week after reports of an internal feud within the party fold between state BJP president Rahul Sinha and actor-turned-politician Rupa Ganguly surfaced, party’s newly appointed general secretary for Bengal Kailash Vijayvargiya on Friday convened a meeting to resolve the matter and also discuss organisational issues.
Both Ganguly and Sinha were present in the meeting along with few of the top office-bearers of the state.
When asked about the tussle between Ganguly and Sinha, Vijayvargia said, “There is no misunderstanding and Rupa Ganguly is a senior leader of the BJP and she will not be stopped from doing her job.”

On July 30, Ganguly and some other BJP workers were hackled by TMC workers when she had visited storm-hit Habra and Ashoknagar in North-24 Parganas to distribute relief materials. When asked, Sinha had said Ganguly had gone there on a private visit, without taking party’s permission.
Ganguly had told The Indian Express that Sinha’s comments had “hurt her”.
Party sources claimed there was tension building within the party, and Kailash had to sort it out to check on infighting ahead of the Assembly elections next year.
Ganguly told The Indian Express that she had no complaints against anyone, and had answered all of Vijayvargiya’s queries during the meeting.
“I would not like to disclose what he asked me about that day’s incident but all I can say that after today’s meet, I can breathe easy. I am not interested in discussing about misunderstandings, if any, within the party. The central leadership is very positive about mission 2016 and I would like to work with the party towards achieving it, without compromising with my self-respect,” Ganguly said.
When asked whether there was any tension between him and Ganguly, Sinha said, “If anyone feels there is any problem, the person is free to talk to me. BJP is not the kind of party where people will have to work at the cost of their self-respect.”
He said Vijayvargiya interacted with party leaders who had sought appointments with him.
“I being the president, was present there along with the state general secretary (organisation) Amalendu Chattopadhyay and state joint general secretary (organisation) Subrato Chattopadhyay. We mostly discussed about the flood situation here and how BJP would be able to pitch in regarding the relief work,” Sinha said.
Confirming that the logjam has been resolved, Amalendu said, “It is not that Kailash (Vijayvargiya) had come to solve any logjam but the matter had been discussed and sorted out.”
