The accused allegedly managed to procure the complainant’s debit card PIN and within hours withdrew Rs 81,915 from his account through a shopping website.

Two men have been arrested from Dumka in Jharkhand and Hirapur in Asansol for allegedly tricking two people from Kolkata into giving them their ATM PINs. The arrests were made by a Lake Town police team.

According to police sources, Sashil Kumar Das of Dum Dum Park area had lodged a complaint in March this year with Lake Town police station that he had received a call from a man who had introduced himself as a bank manager. The accused allegedly managed to procure the complainant’s debit card PIN and within hours withdrew Rs 81,915 from his account through a shopping website. On Thursday, police arrested accused Amit Kumar Rajak, an engineering student in Dhanbad under sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the IPC.

Meanwhile, Md. Samser was arrested from Hirapur under same sections on the basis of a similar complaint lodged in September, when Sawralipi Roy Choudhury had received a call from Mumbai. The caller allegedly knew many details about the victim and asked her for the last 3 digits of her PIN, warning her that if she did not give him the PIN, Rs 2,000 would be deducted as non-cooperation fee. After she provided the PIN, Rs 28,998 was withdrawn from her account.
