True test of AAP starts now, says Smriti Irani

Irani said Nitish Kumar should look into how his own party can be in a better place rather than making comments.

It is always good for democracy when a new force emerges and that the true test of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would start now, said BJP MP Smriti Irani.

“They started off saying all politicians are bad and now they themselves have become politicians. Now people will decide how much AAP lives up to the promises it has made to the people,” she said.

Smriti was in the city to spread awareness on Run for Unity,a marathon run to be organised December 15 across the country.

She said she expected over 30 lakh people to join the run and said she was happy that state BJP president Rahul Sinha assured participation of over one lakh people in Kolkata at Shyambazar five-point crossing at 8 am.

Speaking on AAP’s popularity she said its popularity is only limited to Delhi, which was the reason why they didn’t put any candidates in other states.

“On a national level,we plan to achieve the magical figure of 272 on our own and are going to the booth level. I don’t think AAP has the capacity or else they would have fought in other states as well,” she said.

Attributing BJP’s win to an anti-Congress wave,Smriti said: “Narendra Modi’s campaign for a Congress-free nation and the anti-Congress wave that followed, swept over 70 per cent votes in BJP’s favour.”

Speaking on Rahul Gandhi, she said he is constantly proving to be a liability for the Congress and added that even his own party leaders did not refute the fact that his campaign were leaving a negative impact.

Talking about a possible alliance either with AAP or the TMC,she said: “It is to be decided by the Parliamentary board. As an individual,I cant comment on that.”

Reacting to Nitish Kumar’s comments that people voted for BJP because they did not have an option, she said: “JD-U had lost the Lok Sabha election. Nitish Kumar should look into how his own party can be in a better place rather than making such comments.”

Speaking on the Justice Ganguly sexual harassment case, she said: “For someone who was in the judicial system and currently heads a commission which is there to uphold human rights,he should immediately step down or else people will lose faith on the Human Rights Commission. It should also be exemplified that people placed at such high positions, are not above the law and should be tried just like any other ordinary person,” Irani said.
