Kolkata:Former India football team captain Prasun Banerjee will be Trinamool Congress candidate in the by-election to the Howrah Lok Sabha constituency.
This was announced by party chief Mamata Banerjee at the Trinamools general council meeting in Kolkata on Friday. The seat fell vacant due to the death of Trinamool Lok Sabha member Ambica Banerjee recently. The bypoll will be held on June 2.
High Court reserves rural poll verdict
Kolkata:The Calcutta High Court on Friday reserved its judgment on a petition filed by the state election commission seeking scrapping of the panchayat poll notification issued by the state government.

Chargesheet against 9 in cop killing case
Kolkata:The CID has filed chargesheet against the nine accused,including Trinamool Congress councilor Mohammed Iqbal,in the ASI killing case in Garden Reach area in February this year. Out of the nine those who have been chargesheeted,four have been arrested and five are still absconding, IG (CID) Vineet Goyal said.
President to arrive on Sunday on 3-day visit
