Services in Sealdah South section were disrupted and then resumed Wednesday morning, due to a five-hour blockade by protestors on railway tracks at another station.

Many passengers had squatted on the tracks of Diamond Harbour station of South 24 Parganas district to protest regular delays in the arrival of local trains.

Railways officials “assured” the protestors of “timely service”, following which they agreed to lift the blockade around 10.30 am, as per Eastern Railway CPRO Koushik Mitra.

The protest led to several local trains in the Sealdah South section getting cancelled, while many ran late. Reportedly, many non-protesting passengers complained they could not reach their workplaces in Kolkata on time.

“The first passenger train from Diamond Harbour station has already departed,” said Mitra.

The protest, which began around 5 am, also delayed passengers at Sealdah station, waiting to travel to Diamond Harbour.
