THE state police report submitted to the home department following the Maoist massacre in Chhattisgarh has specifically mentioned that TMC MP Suvendu Adhikari should not hold rallies in the Junglemahal area, including Purulia,Bankura and West Midnapore. Suvendu, however, said he will continue to visit the Left Wing Extremist (LWE) areas.
The report also lets on about a probable visit of senior central committee member of the CPI-Maoists in West Midnapore district recently.
Incidentally,Suvendu holds the charge for West Midnapore (Junglemahal). Ahead of the panchayat elections now,Suvendu has been given the responsibility by the TMC leadership to hold meetings and rallies in the Junglemahal area and in East Midnapore.
Suvendu has already held several meetings at Silda in West Midnapore in May and would start campaigning in Salboni from June. He is also scheduled to hold rallies and meetings in West Midnapore and Bankura, said a senior TMC leader.
Suvendu Adhikari has been given Z plus security cover under which he gets two armed guards and two pilot cars with armed guards.
When contacted,Suvendu said,I have to hold political rallies and political campaign in the area. The Maoists are against democracy and they cannot threaten us who believe in democracy. If we,the members of the mainstream political parties, shy away from holding political activities in the area, the Maoists would be back again to regain their lost ground. That would be even worse scenario for the state. So,there is no question of accepting the advisory from the police for not travelling to the LWE areas.
