Leaders of the newly formed Paschim Banga Rajya Sarkari Karmachari Federation consisting state government employees, were Monday asked by the minister for Parliamentary affairs and IT, Partha Chatterjee to work “without fear or favour” while performing poll duties. Partha, who is also the mentor of the organisation which is affiliated to the Trinamool Congress, advised it to fan out into districts.
Chatterjee chaired a meeting of office bearers of the federation on Monday in the state Assembly, and told the employees to bury all differences and work hard to make people aware of the developmental programmes that the government had undertaken.
“During the Left Front regime, employees owing allegiance to the Co-ordination Committee, (state government employees union affiliated to CPIM) used to perform election duties with a heavy bias. But now our leaders have told us to work impartially, not even favour TMC and we are going to spread that message across the state,’’ said an office bearer.
In the meeting, three conveners, Dibyendu Roy, Tapan Gorui and Saumiya Biswas, a core committee of 31 members and an advisory committee of 11 retired employees were constituted. “We are happy that the government has taken steps like introduction of house building loan and cashless mediclaim to the tune of Rs 1 lakh for the employees,’’ Dibyendu Roy, convenor told The Indian Express.
Monday’s meeting was believed to be a sequel to the convention on February 22, presided over by Mamata Banerjee at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, wherein several sops like cashless mediclaim were announced.
The CPIM, however, was critical of the no-favour claim and said, the leaders would in fact tell the employees to work for TMC. “What they are telling you is a blatant lie. On the contrary they are going to tell employees to work for the interests of the ruling party. As far as we are concerned, we were always impartial. People have now come to know about their (TMC) real character,’’ Manoj Guha, state secretary of the Co-ordination Committee told The Indian Express.
