TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar today apologised to the West Bengal Human Rights Commission for her comments on the Park Street rape victim.
The WBHRC in February issued summons to Ghosh Dastidar in connection with her remarks about the woman who was allegedly raped in a moving car in the Park Street area in February 2012.
Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar today apologised for her comment after she was shown the video clip of her comment. Since she admitted that it was wrong on her part to comment about the victim, the commission has dropped the case. She today admitted her fault and stated that she made the comment in connection with a separate matter, said Sujay Kumar Haldar, joint secretary of the WBHRC.
The WBHRC had asked her to appear before the commission and explain herself.
Speaking to a TV channel in December 2012,Ghosh Dastidar had referred to the alleged rape as a misunderstanding between a woman and her clients.
The WBHRC took suo motu cognizance of the incident and summoned her. Ghosh Dastidars comments had evoked strong reactions from different quarters, including the victim, and the WBHRC had sought a report from the police commissioner.
