A man was shot dead by three unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in Khadinamore, Chinsurah Hooghly, on Thursday morning, police said.
Gautam Sen (47), a driver by profession, had gone to his employer’s home to collect his dues. Police sources said he was seated outside his employer’s home, waiting for the latter to get the money. Armed men reached the spot, shot him four times and fled.
Sen was rushed to the nearby Imambazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Police speculated that he might have died on the spot.
Sources said the assailants were carrying sophisticated firearms. “Preliminary investigations suggest that it is a matter of personal enmity.
The accused may have been contract killers. We are investigating the case from all possible angles,” said a senior officer.
A murder case has been lodged against unidentified persons in Chinsurah police station. Meanwhile, locals demanded the speedy arrest of the accused.
“This is not the first time that a murder has happened in Hooghly district in broad daylight. Locals are worried that criminals have been openly violating laws and committing crimes while they live in fear,” said a resident of the area.
