West Bengal Human Rights Commission chairman Ashok Kumar Ganguly on Monday took suo motu cognizance of the death of a student after being beaten up by his teacher in school.
Ganguly directed South 24-Parganas district superintendent of police Praveen Triparthy to file a complete report on the incident in three weeks time.
Bapi Joardar,a class III student of Nirdeshkhali Shisu Sikha Kendra in Basanti area of the Sundarbans in South 24-Parganas,fell ill on May 17 and died in a government hospital in Kolkata the next day after being physically punished by his teacher.
Champa Rani Mondal,a teacher of the school had banged the nine-year-old boys head against the wall for his alleged lapses in class.
Mondal is in jail custody for 14 days since May 18.
