THE SHAHI Imam of Kolkata’s Tipu Sultan Masjid, Syed Mohammad Nurur Rahman Barkati, on Monday issued a fatwa against BJP state president Dilip Ghosh for making “filthy” comments against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Barkati said Ghosh should be “stoned” for his remark on Sunday that Mamata should have been “pulled by her hair” when she was in New Delhi recently and and thrown out of the city. “…If we wanted, we could have thrown her out of Delhi by grabbing her hair, as we have our police deployed there, but we didn’t do so. How can a chief minister use such words for the prime minister… it’s not right),” Ghosh had said referring to Mamata criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi over demonetisation.

“I have issued a fatwa against that badtameez (ill-mannered) Dilip Ghosh. How can anyone use words like that against a leader of Hindustan and that too, the chief minister of Bengal? Mera fatwa hai ki usko pathar marke Bangal se nikalna chahiye (My fatwa is that he should be pelted with stones and thrown out of Bengal,” Barkati told mediapersons. He was accompanied by Trinamool Congress MP Idris Ali, who also condemned Ghosh for his comments.
Barkati added that he will move the Calcutta High Court soon and file a defamation case against Ghosh. “We have not fixed the date yet, but it will be done very soon,” he said.
“On one hand, BJP talks of the uniform civil code and women rights. On the other, its leaders talk in such unacceptable manner about women, attacking women leaders in the country in such foul language… The BJP’s stand on women’s rights its nothing but hypocrisy. Dilip Ghosh also said that Delhi belongs to the BJP. This is not true. Delhi belongs to Kejriwal,” he added.
Maintaining that the increasing vote share of the BJP in the state was a matter of concern, Barkati said: “You see they are a party of cadres… they mobilise the cadres. I believe that the chief minister should give them a befitting reply and mobilise her own cadres. The RSS needs to be weeded out of Bengal entirely and we will help her in this. She has the full support of the Muslim community in Bengal and we will throw our entire weight behind her… not by increasing the polarisation that the Modi government encourages but with secular.”
He went on to accuse RSS of being “an arm of the CIA”. “When has America ever been a friend to any country? They (RSS) will also come to know the truth of America soon enough,” said Barkati.
“RSS ki pitai karni chahiye, unko marke state se nikalna chahiye theek usi tarah jis tarah se Modi pitai karta hai (The RSS should be beaten up and sent out of the state just like Modi is responsible for people being beaten up),” he added.
