State asks Centre to give fertiliser subsidy to farmers

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday urged the Centre to give fertiliser subsidy to farmers and criticised the Left parties for not opposing the Centre’s decision in 2009 to decontrol fertiliser prices.

Krishnagar: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday urged the Centre to give fertiliser subsidy to farmers and criticised the Left parties for not opposing the Centre’s decision in 2009 to decontrol fertiliser prices. Banerjee said that the decontrol of prices paved the way for increase in the prices of the agricultural input. Expressing displeasure over the functioning of the three-tier panchayat system,Banerjee said, “There was non-cooperation by the CPM-controlled panchayats of which 65 had been dissolved. Not even a single panchayat was dissolved in our tenure.”
