Responding to Tuesday’s order on panchayat elections,Barrister Samaraditya Pal,counsel for the State Election Commission, told the media he did not gave any “consent” to the Division Bench to pass such order.

The order passed by the Division Bench of Chief Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Joymalya Bagchi stated: “We express our gratitude to Pal (counsel of SEC) and the advocate general and other senior advocates, who with their pragmatic wisdom have reached the aforesaid consensus.”

Pal claimed he did not give consent to the division bench and that he did not hear properly when the Division Bench passed the order in the open court.

State election commissioner Mira Pandey also said today there was no such instruction to the counsel to give “consent” to the court order.

Pal said: “I am very unhappy with the part of the judgment that talked about my or the SEC’s consent. Asked about an appeal or review,Pal said: “All options are open.”
