The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday summoned Khyati Saddana, the aide of jailed Congress leader Matang Sinh, on February 16 for questioning in the Saradha scam case.
Sinh, a former Union minister, was arrested by the CBI in connection with scam last week after he did not appear before it for questioning. Khyati — who has been introducing herself as Sinh’s “personal assistant” — will allegedly be examined about the “financial transactions” made between Sinh and Saradha boss Sudipta Sen.
Saddana is believed to have made calls to former Union home secretary Anil Goswami, who was later removed for his alleged attempts to stop Sinh’s arrest. Sources in the CBI said that Khayti — who was accompanying Sinh on the day he was arrested — had started screaming at CBI officials claiming that they could not arrest a “severely ill person” like Sinh. Sources added that after Sinh was arrested, she was seen making frantic calls to several “top bureaucrats” in Delhi.
The ED has also summoned the wife of Assam MLA Hemant Biswa Sarma in connection with the scam.
Meanwhile, the Bidhannagar police commissionerate on Saturday arrested Biswapriya Giri, owner of URO Group of companies — another chit fund company. Sources said the group collected Rs 1,500 crore from market by duping investors. Giri, who was absconding for several months now, was picked up late Friday from Salt Lake Sector V. He was produced before the court on Saturday, which remanded him to police custody till February 11.
