TV entrepreneur Manoranjana Singh has told the Justice Shyamal Sen Commission that the jailed Saradha Group CMD, Sudipta Sen, gave Rs 21 crore to her to set up a channel in northeastern states.
Singh, wife of former Congress MP Matang Singh, Wednesday appeared before the commission that has been appointed by the state government to inquire into the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam, Singh said: “We received funds from Bengal media. And we were given money to start a media channel that was operational in the northeastern state. So the money was taken as part of investment in a media project. And there was nothing wrong in it.”
Singh is also learnt to have confirmed that no share of the channel was handed over to Sen after the channel started operation.
Singh might be summoned again to the commission, sources said.
Meanwhile, Singh was also summoned to the Enforcement Directorate office in Delhi for interrogation. A few months earlier, she had appeared before the Special Investigation Team formed by the state government.
In his letter to the CBI, Sen had alleged that Manoranjana Singh had offered to open a TV channel in Guwahati.
In the same letter, Sen had also claimed of paying Rs 25 crore to her company.
Sen said he wanted to buy a good number of shares of the company, as he was looking to gain a foothold in the media in the Northeast.
