RG Kar Medical College student found dead at home, police suspect suicide

A 20-year-old student of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata was found dead inside her room at the staff quarters of Kamarhati ESI Hospital in North 24 Parganas district Thursday night. According to the police, the woman lived there with her mother, an employee of the hospital, while her father, a bank official, is posted in Mumbai.

“Her mother works in ESI Hospital and they used to stay together. An investigation has been initiated,” said a Barrackpore police officer.

Police reports indicate the student was alone in her room when the incident occurred. Her mother became concerned after failing to reach her and, when she entered the house, she found her daughter’s body. She was taken to the hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.
