As the Congress suffered a debacle in the four states, results for which were declared Sunday,Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to visit Delhi Monday.

Though she said she is going to the national capital for personal reasons, political observers attribute the visit to her plans to get a feel of the political atmosphere in the wake of the poll results.

According to reports, the CM plans to visit the residence of Shahi Imam of Delhi, whose son got married on December 7. Then, she had sent two leaders of her party, general secretary Mukul Roy and state minister for urban development Firhad Hakim. She had already written to the Shahi Imam that she might visit his house in Delhi if she found time.

Mamata was last in Delhi on April 9 this year when she went to meet the Planning Commission officials over fund allocation to the state. She and minister for finance Amit Mitra were heckled by student activists of the CPM then with both having to be hospitalised.

In Delhi,Mamata will visit the Central Hall of Parliament and is likely to meet leaders of other parties. “Chief ministers and leaders of other parties are in touch with Didi. Things may be favourable with the BJP but it is unlikely that the Trinamool Congress will join the NDA once again as Mamata enjoys the support of a majority of Muslims who form 30 per cent of the population. She has already declared that she will contest the Lok Sabha elections alone. What will happen will happen after the general elections,’’ a Trinamool Congress leader said.

Mamata has already floated the idea of a federal front and has been in touch with leaders like Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar,Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik,TRS leader of Andhra Pradesh Jagan Mohan Reddy,to name a few.

She has already said the idea of the federal front was alive and would be discussed further.

“Now with the rout of the Congress and CPM not being able to win a single seat in the four states, fresh equations have emerged in national politics. Didi is happy that CPM has been further weakened and if she wins at least 25-30 seats in Lok Sabha, she will be in a good bargaining position for a future political alliance,’’ a TMC leader said.
