The Calcutta High Court today rejected the bail petition of Raja Sarkhel and Prasun Chatterjee,the social activist who had been arrested from Kolkata in the first week of October 2009 in connection with Chattradhar Mahatos case.
The CID had slapped UAPA against the two for their alleged involvement with the CPI (Maoist) – a banned outfit since June 2009. The CID had recovered three Maoist publications from their possession during at the time of the arrest. The CID brought the charges that they had participated in the meetings at Lalgarh organised by the PCAPA,a frontal wing of the Maoists. They had collected funds for the banned organisation,the department alleged.
Publication Prosecutor Asimesh Goswami said that according to the UAPA,assisting the terrorist organisation is also an offence.
