The CID may summon officials of a chartered accountancy firm hired by Ruia Group chairman Pawan Kumar Ruia for interrogation regarding a theft case lodged against the industrialist by Railways, sources said on Wednesday.
Ruia, who was recently arrested and remanded to 14 days’ CID custody by a Barrackpore court, was interrogated for long hours on Wednesday, said sources in the agency. The sleuths are likely to grill chartered accountants who have been handling Ruia’s balance sheets to verify their audit report. “We will be calling Ruia’s chartered accountant to clear our doubts,” said an official. The CID has been tallying the balance sheet of Ruia’s Jessop factory in Dum Dum with the industrialist’s statement. Sources said a committee set up on the directions of the Calcutta High Court would be inspecting the factory premises on Thursday.
The Railway had allegedly given the Jessop factory a contract to manufacture AC rakes and wagons. However, they allegedly did not complete the order, nor returned the raw material. According to a source, railway property worth Rs 50 crore was missing from the factory premises. So far, during interrogation, Ruia has been asked to explain the annual report of the factory between 2009 and 2014. The balance sheet did not reflect railway property, for which Ruia allegedly could not provide a satisfactory answer to the officials. Sources said the CID has sought documents from the Railways related to the contract given to Jessop.
