Lalgarh Democratic Forum, formed by supporters of PCAPA leader Chhatradhar Mahato and backed by various ultra Left groups, held a meeting in Junglemahal on Wednesday where the group asked the people of the Maoist-affected area not to join the ‘special force’ which the government wants to raise.

“We know that the formation of 10,000 special force in Junglemahal is nothing but the beginning of the constitution of Salwa Judum in the state. It is a dangerous tactic adopted by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to divide and rule the tribal population in Junglemahal,” said author and social activist Nabarun Bhattacharya.

“Once this special force is formed and deployed in the area, the result will be more horrible then what we have seen in Chhattishgarh. We request the tribal youth not to get trapped by the state government,” said Bhattacharya. The meeting was attended by Niyati Mahato, wife of Chhatradhar Mahato, and wife of slain Lalmonhan Tudu. Around 20 groups from Kolkata also attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, police have filed a case against PCAPA leaders Joydeb Mahato and Ashok Jiban Ghosh for allegedly forcing the villagers in Sankrail to join the rally. Angry villagers, who were celebrating Eid festival, resisted the PCAPA group’s attempt and set three motorbikes and a vehicle on fire, said police.
