A person was killed and another injured in a clash between supporters of CPM and Congress,ahead of the panchayat polls (July 22),the police said on Sunday. CPM activist Naushad Mandal died while another party activist got injured after the two groups clashed in Koshaberia village on Saturday night. The police arrested six people from the spot.
TMC activist injured in clash,6 held
Six CPM workers were arrested on the eve of second phase of the panchayat polls on Sunday following a clash between Trinamool Congress and Left workers at Andal in Burdwan district,leaving one TMC activist injured. Six CPM activists,including partys Ajay-Damodar Zonal Committee member Malay Basu and partys Madanpur gram panchayat candidate Bablu Mondal,were arrested,the police said,adding that the clash was a result of an argument on a campaign issue.
Families of CPM supporters flee
Members of around 35 families of CPM supporters fled their homes in Srirampore village under Debra police station in West Midnapore district following a clash with Trinamool Congress workers,police said. Local CPM leaders,however,claimed members of 70 families had fled following torture by Trinamool activists.
Rebuild torched houses: Cong to govt
The Congress today demanded that the Trinamool Congress rebuild 41 houses of the Opposition party supporters,which the activists of the ruling party had allegedly torched earlier this week.
